Renewable energy independent power producer Seriti Green has appointed Chabisi Motloung as COO, as the company’s projects, including the giant Ummbila Emoyeni Wind Farm in Mpumalanga, move into operation.

The first three faces of Ummbila Emoyeni are now under construction, and involve wind projects with a combined capacity of 465 MW, as well as a new main transmission substation. The full 900 MW development will involve five wind farms, a solar PV generator and a battery storage facility.

Seriti Green is majority owned by Seriti Resources, a black-owned coal mining company, with large operations in the province that supply coal to Eskom's Kriel, Tutuka, Lethabo, Kendal and Duvha power stations, as well as export markets.

In a statement, Seriti Green said that Motloung had more than 25 years of leadership experience across mining and metals, including senior operational roles at Glencore, Jubilee Metals Group, Samancor, Kumba and the Afarak Group.

In his new role, he will oversee day-to-day responsibilities for the operating facilities, manage recurring electricity revenue and ensure compliance with evolving regulatory frameworks.

CEO Peter Venn described the appointment as a key milestone in the company’s just energy transition journey.

“As we move from project development to full-scale operations, operational excellence becomes critical. Chabisi’s cross-industry experience and proven leadership will help us translate strategy into tangible energy outcomes for South Africa,” Venn said.

Motloung said his goal was to ensure that the projects not only delivered renewable energy but also created meaningful socioeconomic impact through “disciplined execution, ethical leadership and strong stakeholder partnerships”.
